Supplies Used In This Craft:

How to Make DIY Tissue Paper Flowers

  • Prepare your workspace and gather all supplies before starting your DIY tissue paper flower project.
  • Stack 10 sheets of 14″x20″ tissue paper evenly on top of each other. Use 2 sheets for the inner bud, 6 sheets for the petals, and 2 sheets (preferably green) for the outer leaves.
  • Cut the 2 bud pieces in half lengthwise to create smaller inner layers for the center of your flower.
  • Re-stack all pieces together, placing the bud layers centered on top and the outer leaf layers (green) at the bottom.
  • Secure all layers together at one end using a clip to keep everything aligned while folding.
  • Turn the stacked paper lengthwise so the clipped end is furthest away from you.
  • Begin folding the entire stack accordion-style (about 1 inch per fold), similar to making a paper fan. Continue until you reach the clip, then remove it.
  • Gently open the folded stack and separate the top 2 bud pieces from the rest.
  • Take the bud pieces and fold them accordion-style again, then fold them in half to form the center.
  • Cut small slits along the open edge of the folded bud (about ยฝ inch apart) to create a fringed center. Set aside.
  • Return to the remaining stacked layers and fold them accordion-style, then fold in half.
  • Separate the top 6 petal layers, refold them, and trim both ends into rounded (half-circle) shapes to create soft, natural-looking petals.
  • Take the final 2 outer leaf layers and trim the ends into similar rounded shapes but with more of a point, to form the base of the flower.
  • Layer everything back together: outer leaves on the bottom, petals in the middle, and the bud pieces on top. Make sure all accordion folds are aligned and the bud layers are centered.
  • Gather the full stack together accordion-style and fold it in half at the center.
  • Wrap a pipe cleaner tightly around the center and twist to secure. Trim any excess.
  • Carefully fan out both sides and begin gently pulling each layer upward toward the center, one sheet at a time, to form the flower shape.
  • Continue fluffing and shaping until your tissue paper flower looks full, soft, and evenly rounded.
  • Add ribbon or string if you’d like to hang your flowers for wall decor or party displays.
  • Repeat the process using different colors and sizes to create a full DIY flower arrangement.
